JSE LISTING EVENT | SATRIX INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY ETF | 11 AUGUST 2021

Good morning everyone! Thanks Leila, Valdene and the rest of the JSE team for hosting us once again and for continuing the proudly South African tradition of listing events. Even the sound of an online kudu horn remains beautiful!

Thank you ALL for joining us this morning for the listing of our 21st Exchange Traded Fund, the Satrix Inclusion & Diversity ETF. It’s not our biggest IPO to date, I think it might even be the smallest, but it is without a doubt one of the most important ones. It’s the change we believe impact investing can bring about.

I would like to take you all the way back to 2016, where it all started. Late that year, we ran an internal innovation initiative – partly to take a fresh look at the business but also to give every employee an opportunity to pitch an idea that could potentially build the brand or grow the business – encouraging the ownership and inclusive culture we are so proud of.

The team responded with great enthusiasm, 13 people presented and since then we have implemented at least 3 of these ideas - including a social media campaign called The People of Satrix, a focus on women investing as well as an office revamp – something that created a lot of fun in those good old days!

It’s almost 5 years later, but this morning we are also – proudly so – implementing a 4th idea, the listing of an Inclusion & Diversity product.  As a business we have been driving financial inclusion since the day we picked our strapline “Own the Market”. But our, then team member, Jason Swartz’s idea challenged the business – in his own words…'we should be aligning our purpose of inclusion better with actual products’. Simply put  – Satrix, put your money where your mouth is.

We did exactly that - we partnered with Refinitiv, who customised their existing global I&D index for South Africa and constructed an ETF based not only on sound investment principles but also one that is aligned with our deep commitment to inclusion and diversity.
