Why is my Satrix account moving?

Your Satrix account is housed in the Satrix Investment Plan which was launched in 2006, and administered by AOS (Automated Outsourcing Services).

In 2015 Satrix also launched an online platform, SatrixNOW, administered by Easy Equities. 

Satrix has now decided to appoint a single administrator, Easy Equities, to give all Satrix clients the benefits of the online platform, including a reduced platform fee. Satrix will therefore move all Satrix Investment Plan clients to SatrixNOW.

When is my Satrix Investment Plan account moving to SatrixNOW?

The move date is planned for 29 February 2020.

How will this move to SatrixNOW affect me?

At this stage we are only notifying clients of the move scheduled for 29 February 2020, and no action needs to be taken. Satrix will keep investors updated throughout the process. Clients can be assured that Satrix will aim to make the move as seamless as possible. We will provide support for any questions via migration@satrix.co.za

How does the SatrixNOW platform fee compare?

SatrixNOW offers clients a lower platform fee.

The reduced annual platform administration fee means that investors on SatrixNOW will have an overall lower total cost associated with their investment.

Also note that while the Satrix Investment Plan requires minimum investments of R300 per month, or lump sum investments of R1000, SatrixNOW has no minimums. This means that you can top up your investment portfolio with any amount that suits you.

SatrixNOW is a self-service online platform - we are therefore able to pass on the savings derived from technological efficiencies to our clients.

Will there be a cost associated with moving my account to SatrixNOW?

No, there will be no cost to you when we move your Satrix Investment Plan account to SatrixNOW.

What happens if I do not want to move to SatrixNOW?

We are confident that investors will welcome the range of benefits SatrixNOW offers, in particular the lower platform fee. We understand that change can be unsettling, but all Satrix Investment Plan clients will move to SatrixNOW as this will be the only platform offered.

How will I receive my statements?

SatrixNOW will have monthly investor statements available online which clients can access and download at their convenience.

I have an existing debit order, will this be affected in any way?

Your current debit order on the Satrix Investment Plan will continue on SatrixNOW. You will not need to make any changes.

Can my financial advisor still manage my account on SatrixNOW?

Yes, financial advisors will have access to manage their clients’ accounts on SatrixNOW. Satrix will communicate directly with all financial advisors to inform them of the move.

How will I transact if I no longer need to complete a form?

A SatrixNOW account with a unique username will be set up for you. You will receive an e-mail with your new account details and will be prompted to set up a secure password in order to activate your account. 

Once your SatrixNOW account is activated, all SatrixNOW transactions can be executed online.

You'll be able to 

  • view your portfolio at any time
  • access monthly statements
  • buy & sell Satrix securities
  • set up or amend debit orders
  • invest lump sums

Provision will be made for Satrix Investment Plan clients who are unable to use the online platform, but this will incur an additional administration cost. We are however confident that investors will welcome the range of benefits SatrixNOW offers and will find the online process user-friendly and accessible

What if I already have a SatrixNOW account in addition to my Satrix Investment Plan account?

Your Satrix Investment Plan account will move to SatrixNOW on 29 February 2020, and these assets will be housed in a separate account on SatrixNOW. 

We realise that while some clients want two accounts, most would prefer to have one consolidated account on SatrixNOW. We will be working on a solution to combine accounts once the move to SatrixNOW has taken place.  

Can I use the same login details?

Once your account is moved to SatrixNOW, your Satrix Investment Plan login details will expire. You will be allocated a new username and will be directed to set a secure password for your SatrixNOW account. All instructions will be communicated closer to the time.

How can I access my account online right now?

Until the move date, the Satrix Investment Plan continues as normal and you can still sign up for online access to your Satrix Investment Plan account. You can also request a CSDP transfer to SatrixNOW in order to move your account now, but this will involve an administration process and will incur a charge of R150 + VAT. We encourage you to be patient for just a few more weeks, at which point your account will be moved to SatrixNOW without any cost to you.

Will I still be able to post or fax instructions to Satrix?

SatrixNOW is an online platform making investing accessible through any device, including your mobile phone. This enables us to offer you the platform service at a lower cost and we encourage investors to use the online functionality. However, we do understand that some clients may be unable to access Satrix digitally, and we will make an allowance for a manual process. Manual processing of forms will incur an additional administration cost of 5 basis points (0.05%) per annum.

Can I still invest in a Tax Free Savings Account?

You can still contribute to your tax-free savings account (TFSA) in the Satrix Investment Plan for the tax year ending 29 February 2020. We encourage investors to finalise their TFSA contributions early, as no contributions can be processed after 11am on 27 February 2020.


Tax-free Savings Accounts on SatrixNOW:

Once your account has moved to SatrixNOW, you will be able to login and toggle between your standard and TFSA accounts. You will have a clear view of the holdings in each part of your account, and an inter-account transfer function allows you to transfer cash from your Standard account to TFSA. You will be able to download separate statements for each. You will also notice each has a unique account reference number, which helps to correctly allocate your deposits. 

SatrixNOW will also remind you of how much you are still able to contribute to tax-free savings for the current tax year. The contribution limit is currently R33 000 per tax year.
